Is it ClassPass or Mindbody?
Neither replaces the other. Mindbody is the software that runs your studio: schedule, memberships, payments and client records. ClassPass is a marketplace app where members book classes and services with a monthly bank of credits, and it sends those bookings into spots you choose to share.
| Question | Mindbody | ClassPass |
|---|---|---|
| What is it? | Software that runs your studio: schedule, memberships, payments, clients | Marketplace app where members book classes and services with a monthly credit bank |
| Where do bookings come from? | Your site, app, front desk and staff | ClassPass members, including people brand-new to your venue |
| Who sets the price per visit? | You (membership, pack and drop-in prices) | ClassPass SmartRate adjusts the per-spot rate in real time |
| How do you get paid? | Your own payment processing | Per attended reservation (excluding First Class Free), via Tipalti |
| Cost to start | Subscription (see Mindbody for current plans) | Listing is free, per Mindbody |
| Best for | Running day-to-day operations | Filling off-peak spots and finding new clients |
Most studios run Mindbody for the business and use ClassPass to fill unbooked spots. Pandaflow is not an alternative to either platform. The approach is to keep Mindbody and connect everything else around it. If you are comparing systems or evaluating changes across your stack, Pandaflow can evaluate your Mindbody data, make sense of it, and map what any change would involve.
How do ClassPass bookings reach your Mindbody schedule?
Once a Mindbody business is integrated with ClassPass, its schedule syncs automatically, and reservations update in real time to reduce double-booking risk. ClassPass performance can also be viewed in the Mindbody dashboard. Features vary by region and tier, so check what your account includes. For connection details, see Mindbody integrations.
Two inventory controls decide how much of your capacity ClassPass takes:
- SmartSpot, with its Minimum Spots and Release All options, lets you share excess capacity while protecting peak demand.
- SmartRate adjusts the per-spot rate in real time based on demand, availability and seasonal trends, so the rate isn’t fixed.
If your peak class fills with ClassPass visitors and direct members are turned away, that is a SmartSpot setting problem, not a marketing problem. Fix spot allocations for peak classes first.
What is a ClassPass visit worth compared with a member?
There is no single ClassPass payout rate. Payouts are per attended reservation, excluding First Class Free, and SmartRate moves the rate with demand. To get a figure you can act on, calculate it from your own numbers:
- Pull one month of ClassPass payout reports. Divide the payout by attended visits, per class type.
- Take member revenue for the same class type and divide it by the visits members actually attended, not by 30 days.
- Add your drop-in price for comparison.
- Compare fill rates in off-peak and peak slots, with and without ClassPass.
The numbers rarely match at first. Booked, attended and paid are three different counts, and First Class Free visits are not paid. Deposits also arrive on Tipalti’s schedule, not on the class date, so reconcile by class date from the payout report, not by deposit date in your bank or accounting system.
This is an illustrative setup, not a customer story. Suppose a studio’s ClassPass payout averages $18 per attended visit, its drop-in is $25, and a member paying $160 a month attends 4 classes, which works out to $40 per visit. A member who attends 16 times pays $10 per visit, which is less than a ClassPass visit. A member who rarely comes is worth more per visit. That is why actual attendance matters more than list price.
Mindbody notes that the average Mindbody business sees a ~29% revenue increase after 6 months on ClassPass (as of January 2025). That is a vendor claim, and results vary. Treat it as a hypothesis to test against your own data. Mindbody also offers a ClassPass Guarantee for Mindbody subscribers: if ClassPass doesn’t increase revenue in 90 days, it writes a check for 2x the difference, subject to terms.
How do you turn ClassPass visitors into members?
ClassPass reports that 94% of its users were brand-new to the venues they visited as of January 2025, and a typical member is not typically loyal to one brand. A first visit that is not flagged in your client records usually never receives a follow-up.
The manual way: after each class, find new ClassPass visitors in Mindbody. Check how they appear on the client record and in your Service Sales report, export the list, and send an intro offer by hand.
Where it breaks:
- It depends on staff remembering to pull reports after every class.
- The delay between the visit and the message lowers conversion.
- ClassPass clients may not be tagged consistently across exports.
- Repeat visitors risk receiving the same intro offer twice.
The automated way with Pandaflow: start free, connect Mindbody and your email or SMS tool (such as HubSpot, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, ActiveCampaign or Twilio), describe what you want in plain English (for example: “A day after a client’s first visit that came through ClassPass, send an intro-offer email. Stop once they buy a membership”), review a few records, and go live. Pandaflow sets up the sync, keeps it running, and repairs it when something changes. There are no workflows or templates to configure.
Before launching messaging, confirm what contact details your ClassPass partner terms permit you to use and verify local consent requirements. For the complete strategy, read how to convert ClassPass clients to members. To explore plans, see Pandaflow pricing: free to start, with Lite at $79, Silver at $299 and Gold at $499 a month.
How do you report on ClassPass revenue?
Use ClassPass payout reports for earnings and ClassPass insights in Mindbody for attendance performance. Neither report provides the full picture on its own.
Pandaflow can send visits and payouts to Google Sheets (with Looker Studio on top) so ClassPass revenue sits beside member revenue in one view. Daily sales can also flow to QuickBooks or Xero. Setup follows the same steps: start free, connect your apps, describe what you want in plain English, review a few records, and go live.
Track these metrics monthly:
- Attended ClassPass visits, by class type
- Average payout per attended visit
- Share of capacity allocated to ClassPass, by time slot
- ClassPass-to-member conversions
Evaluate ClassPass over at least a 90-day window. A single month can mislead due to seasonality and SmartRate adjustments.
What can go wrong?
- ClassPass visitors crowd out members in peak classes. Tighten SmartSpot settings for those slots.
- Deposit dates and class dates get mixed in accounting. Reconcile by class date using payout reports.
- You automate follow-up to people you are not permitted to contact. Confirm partner terms and consent first.
- You assume features match across every tier or region. Check what your specific Mindbody account includes.
- You judge ClassPass on one month. Evaluate performance across at least 90 days.
