Glofox vs Mindbody: an honest comparison for studios

Glofox describes itself as software for class-led fitness businesses and says it has no spa or salon module, while Mindbody serves fitness, wellness and beauty businesses. Which one fits depends on your business type, how new clients find you, and what your data has to do. Before any change, the real cost is usually your client and payment data, not the feature list.

Glofox vs Mindbody: which fits which business?

Glofox describes itself as software for class-led fitness businesses, including gyms, yoga, Pilates, cycling, boxing, martial arts and PT studios. Mindbody serves fitness, wellness and beauty businesses, so it is the more natural fit if you also run salon, spa or med-spa services. Both descriptions come from vendor pages, so treat them as starting points.

  • Class-led fitness that wants its own branded app. Glofox’s pages put this at the centre. They list a custom branded app and say members can book through your own app rather than a shared marketplace.
  • Salons, spas, med-spas, or studios that sell treatments. Glofox says it has no spa or salon module. Mindbody supports salon and spa businesses, and Booker is also built for salons.
  • Studios that rely on marketplace discovery. Glofox’s own comparison page concedes that Mindbody’s consumer app brings real discovery traffic. It frames the choice as marketplace discovery versus owning your acquisition funnel.

Glofox’s comparison page is Glofox’s own view, including its verdicts on Mindbody. Read those verdicts as a sales position, not neutral fact.

Before you weigh ‘own your funnel’ against ‘marketplace discovery’, pull the lead source for your last 90 days of new clients. If most came from your website, referrals or ads, the marketplace argument matters less for you. If most came through the Mindbody app, it matters more.

If the frustration is gaps (retail, follow-up emails, accounting, ad tracking), the gap may be a connection problem rather than a platform problem. Our Mindbody vs other studio software comparison covers the wider field.

How do Glofox and Mindbody compare feature by feature?

Area Glofox (per its public pages) Mindbody (public information)
Built for Class-led fitness: gyms, yoga, pilates, cycling, boxing, martial arts, PT studios Fitness, wellness and beauty businesses
Salon or spa module None, by Glofox’s own description Yes, salon and spa businesses are supported
Branded app Custom branded app is a listed feature Consumer app; ask whether a branded app is included in your plan
Client discovery Members book through your own app; no shared marketplace Consumer app can bring discovery traffic (Glofox acknowledges this)
Multi-location reporting Roll-up reporting across locations listed as built in Multi-location supported; check which reports your plan includes
Pricing Described as clear and upfront; no figures quoted here Plan-based; get a written quote including processing fees
Onboarding and migration Onboarding and data migration assistance, per Glofox Ask what is included and which export options you get
Connections to other tools Check Glofox’s current integrations list Public API and many third-party connectors

Read the table as public claims, and check them in a demo. A longer feature list does not mean a better fit. Judge each platform on your actual week: how it handles a full class timetable, what happens on a failed payment, how member messages go out, and whether the reports you need exist on your plan. Run the demo with your real schedule and a sample of real memberships.

No prices appear here. Neither vendor’s source gives figures in this comparison, and plans change. Ask each vendor for a written quote that includes payment processing fees and the contract term.

What about integrations and access to your data?

Ask each vendor three questions before you commit:

  1. What can I export? Clients, memberships, visit history and sales. Ask for a sample file, not a verbal yes.
  2. Is there an API or connector for the tools I use? Shopify, HubSpot, QuickBooks or Xero, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Meta and Google Ads, for example.
  3. Who holds the stored payment details? Card tokens for autopay memberships depend on the payment processors involved. Get the answer in writing.

Mindbody has a public API and many third-party connectors. Glofox says it offers onboarding and migration help, and its pages mention CRM and reporting. This page does not claim specific Glofox connectors, so check its current integrations list directly.

Most owners who want a change are really asking for a connection:

  • Retail and gift cards in Shopify
  • Clients and visits in HubSpot
  • Daily sales in QuickBooks or Xero
  • Ad conversions through Meta Conversions API and Google Ads
  • Reporting in Google Sheets, with Looker Studio on top
  • Text messages through Twilio, and alerts in Slack

Pandaflow connects Mindbody to these tools. The Mindbody integrations page lists what syncs.

What would changing platforms involve for your data?

The feature list is rarely the hard part. The data is. Before any change, list:

  • Client records and IDs. Client IDs change in any move. Every connected system (HubSpot contacts, Mailchimp or Klaviyo lists, Shopify customers, accounting entries, ad conversion events) matches on email or an ID. Keep a mapping table from old ID to new ID or email.
  • Autopay memberships and stored cards. Whether cards move depends on the payment processor on each side. Don’t assume they do.
  • Class packs, gift card balances and expiry dates. This is prepaid money your accountant has to track.
  • Intro offers already used. Otherwise a returning client can claim one twice.
  • Visit history and lead source. Attendance-based pricing, milestone emails and marketing attribution all depend on them.
  • Waivers, scheduled classes and recurring bookings.
  • Contract term and notice date. Glofox suggests evaluating a switch before your current contract renews. Check your own agreement’s term and notice period first. That date often sets the timeline more than any feature gap.

Revenue figures won’t match across systems during a comparison or trial. Tax, tips, gift card redemptions, and package sales versus package usage are counted differently. Pick one definition first, such as cash received by deposit date, and apply it to both systems before you judge the reports.

Glofox says it provides migration assistance. That is the vendor’s offer, and you still need to check the records yourself. Pandaflow can evaluate your Mindbody data, make sense of it and map what any change would involve, whichever way you go. Our checklist for preparing Mindbody data lists what to pull together.

How to decide: the platform, or the connections around it?

Work through four questions:

  1. Business type. Salon, spa or med-spa services rule Glofox out, by its own description.
  2. Acquisition. Do you depend on marketplace discovery or your own funnel? Decide from your lead-source data.
  3. Contract date. Know your notice date before you do anything.
  4. Gap type. Is the problem the booking engine, or a missing connection?

If the gap is a connection, Pandaflow keeps Mindbody and connects everything else:

  1. Start free.
  2. Connect your apps, Mindbody included.
  3. Describe what you want in plain English.
  4. Review a few records, or place a test order for Shopify.
  5. Go live.

Pandaflow’s AI sets up the sync and keeps it running, repairing it when something changes. Pandaflow is free to start. Plans are Lite $79, Silver $299 and Gold $499 a month, and you can deploy in Pandaflow’s cloud or your own. Check our plans to see pricing for details.

The data and connections matter more than the platform. Get those right, and the software choice gets much easier.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Glofox cheaper than Mindbody?

It depends on your plan, number of locations, member volume and payment processing fees, and prices change. Glofox describes its pricing as clear and upfront, but compare written quotes from both vendors for your setup, including processing fees and contract term.

Which is better for a yoga or pilates studio?

Glofox is built for class-led fitness and lists a custom branded app. Mindbody is a fit if marketplace discovery brings you clients or you also offer wellness or beauty services. Check your own lead-source data and run a demo against your real class week.

Can I keep Mindbody and add the features I need?

Often yes. Many gaps, such as retail, email and SMS follow-up, accounting entries, ad conversion tracking and reporting, are about connecting Mindbody to other tools. Pandaflow connects Mindbody to Shopify, HubSpot, QuickBooks, Xero, Mailchimp, Klaviyo and more, and sets up the sync from a plain-English description.

What happens to my data if I change platforms?

You would need to move client records, memberships, class packs, gift card balances and visit history, and confirm whether stored cards can transfer, which depends on the payment processors. Pandaflow can evaluate your Mindbody data and map what any change would involve.

Does Glofox work for salons and spas?

By Glofox's own description it has no spa or salon module and is built for fitness businesses. Salons and spas should look closely at Mindbody or Booker.
